2012 National Junior Limousin Show
2012 National Junior Show will be held in Des Moines, IA July 7-14. This has been a great event for the sate of Iowa and we hope that have a large showing. We will be posting more information very soon. Please check back.
Hotel Information
If you have not already booked your hotel room for the 2012 National Show, please do so soon.The Sheraton West Des Moines has been chosen for the host hotel. Rates are $79 for a standard room and $89 for a suite. Reservations can be made by calling 515-223-1800 (ask for the 2012 National Limousin Show Rate) or go directly to the website www.starwoodmeeting.com/book/limousin.If you have any problems making your reservation, please contact Brenda Anderson (641-587-2198).
"Real World" Beef Carcuss Workshop
Have you ever really seen the difference between an Angus, Lim-Flex, and Limousin beef carcass? Thanks to WULF Limousin, Iowa State University and the ILA you will get the chance Thursday, July 12 during the National Jr. Limousin event. WULF Limousin is donating 3 steers, ISU will prepare the carcasses for evaluation and the ILA is responsible for bussing spectators from Des Moines to the Iowa State Meat Lab in Ames. The cost for bussing is $600/bus and they want 2-3 busses for the event. If anyone would like to be a sponsor to help defer bus rental costs, please contact Ann Vorthmann. All Iowa Members are needed as volunteers
Putting on a National show is a HUGE undertaking, the more hands we have, the lighter the load!!The ILA board is asking all members to mark their calendars July 7-13, 2012.Please make plans to spend at least one day down in Des Moines helping out!Breakfast and lunch will be served everyday!! We are in need of food preparers, servers and clean up! If there is a day that works for you to lend a helping hand, please contact Ann Vorthmann and she'll pencil you in.If food service is not your thing, there are other areas that would greatly use your talents!
Limousin Beef Needed for Meals
One of the biggest conveniences that a host state can provide at a National Show, are meals in the barns. Iowa plans to provide at least 11 meals for 500 people at each sitting. The hospitality committee projects that they will need approx. 1,200 lbs of hamburger and 200 lbs of beef roast. They really want to serve Limousin beef if it is possible. If you would like to donate or sell your Limousin beef (at a reasonable price) to the National Show, please contact Ann Vorthmann (402-981-1093).Meat will need to be in frozen form and delivered to the state fair grounds on July 6 or 7.
The hospitality committee is also asking all members to talk to their local banks or agricultural companies for "paper product" donations.Serving 11 meals for 500 people will require 5500 plates, cups, napkins and silverware.Companies are usually very willing to donate these items, with their names on them for advertising. We will also hang a banner (provided by the company) with the company's logo in the show ring or hospitality area. Contact Ann Vorthmann if you have a donation!
